Importance of spices

Spices are defined as a by-products taken from the leafs, flowers, roots, barks or nuts of the plants or trees. They are the products which are to be mixed with other ingredients. They are generally added in food, drinks etc. to add flavors and taste in the items made. With the help of trade and daily use they influence the culture and societies.

The use of spices depends upon an individual taste and preferences. It increases the flavors not only in food but also in drinks. Spices are sweet, sour or chilly even though it has its own importance. The culture of the person attracts the spices from one place to the other. The demand of spices is depend upon the taste and preferences of an individual. However it may vary from individual to individual. For example more number of spices is cultivated in south India but it is consumed mainly by north Indians.

Apart from taste and preferences spices also do have its medical and nutritive value. It is also used as home remedial to cure some diseases. For example, Turmeric is used as an anti-oxidant for wounds, Ginger is used as remedial for indigestion, tea-tree is helpful in removing skin problems and garlic is used for heart and indigestion.

Some spices are such that which helps in increasing the flavors of apart from food items. For example, Cinnamon is used in adding fragrance in candles, perfumes, cosmetic items etc. Lavender is used in bathing oils, incense sticks body lotions etc. Pungent odor is also useful in marriage and parties for fragrances. Liquorices is used for whitening complexion of the skin.
