Indian Menu for Beginners

Indian food is very different form the western cuisine. There are lots of variations in Indian food. You have to make combination of dishes to make a complete Indian meal. Any dish in Indian meal cannot be eating alone. It has to be eaten in a group. For example, you cannot have a dish of curry alone; you need some sort of staple to go with it. Generally curry is eaten with rice or chapattis. There are many accompaniments to Indian main dishes and you have to have them all so that you fully enjoy an authentic Indian meal.

The main course of Indian meal consists of staple diet of rice or chapattis, main dishes in form of Dal or lentil, dry vegetables, vegetable curry, if there is non-vegetarian, then meat, chicken or fish dish, chutney, curd and pickles. The meal consists of at least two vegetable on dry and one wet with curry. In daily routine India people have a simple meal, but during festivals there are lots of dishes main as well as accompaniments.

If you want to cook an Indian meal, then you should start with basics. There are lots of dishes, but trying them in the beginning only will be a folly. In the start you can keep your menu simple with only lentil, chapatti, one main curry dish, one dry dish, curd and chutney. The basic Indian meal is not easy to prepare if you don’t know how to make the dishes.

For a beginner the Indian meal has to be kept simple. There are many curry dishes that are very complicated and needs lots of ingredients, so it is best to start with those dishes that do no have many complicated dishes. In many lower economic strata of society generally only lentil or one curry is prepared and rice or chapatti is made to accompany it. If you want to learn cooking first try simple dishes of lentil, steamed rice and a simple curry. Once you have learned the basics, in no time you will go up to more complicate dishes.
